The Australian Sports Commission is aiming to transform community sports coach education to a modernised approach. Their free online course focuses beyond the traditional skill development to servicing the needs and motivations of the individuals as well as creating a supporting, encouraging and inclusive environment.
In an Australian-first the 'Giants of Mandurah' will come to life from the 12th November in a spectacular free exhibition of larger-than-life hidden sculptures by world-renowned Danish artist, Thomas Dambo.
The Giants have been built in secret locations throughout Mandurah and the Peel region - plus an additional one in Subiaco - and will be waiting for explorers of all ages and abilities to come and find them in an interactive sculpture trail. The installation will remain in place for at least one year. Before they set out on their quest to find the Giants, people will be encouraged to pick up the 52-page Giants of Mandurah Travellers' Companion guide from the Mandurah Visitor Centre. Surf Lifesaving WA will be running their popular Rookie Lifeguarding program from 9-13 January 2023 with places opening Sunday 20th November. Visit the Department of Education website to find out how to become a swimming instructor through their funded program for Year 12 students. Training enables students to become an accredited swimming instructor with a CPR qualification. This will qualify them to work teaching VacSwim in Western Australia this summer. As well as teach Interm Swimming lessons throughout the year. Website includes eligibility criteria and the application form.

Minister Templeman has launched the West Australian Strategic Trails Blueprint 2022 - 27. The Blueprint which includes trails in bushwalking, cycling, horse riding, snorkelling and mountain biking has an emphasis on inclusivity, accessibility and connection to country, community and culture.
The Commonwealth has published the Terms of Reference for the Employment White paper. This work is an outcome of the Jobs and Skills Summit held in early September. The overarching focus is productivity growth, full employment and equitable labour market participation. Feedback is invited on the Terms of Reference which is expected to be produced by September 2023.
Recently endorsed changes to the CUA Creative Arts and Culture training package were made available on the National register on October 19th. The changes include new and modified components and can be found here.
The National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) latest report shows that apprentice and trainee commencements increased to 85,470 in the March quarter 2022, the highest number for a quarter since 2012.
The industry sectors with the largest absolute increases in commencements were Accommodation (51.0%), Manufacturing (37.7%), and Administrative and Support Services (21.7%) compared to March quarter 2021. Unfortunately cancellations and withdrawals increased during the quarter (up 28.2% from March quarter 2021).
